Is yerba mate better than coffee?

What is The Yerba Mate?

Yerba mate is the most balanced and healthful energy stimulant, better than coffee, tea, and guarana. It contains 24 vitamins and minerals, 15 amino acids, and abundant polyphenols. The yerba mate tree is grown and processed in Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Brazil. Yerba mate provides energy because it contains caffeine, theobromine, and theophylline.

How to make a yerba mate drink

You don't need any fancy equipment to make a yerba mate drink. All you need is a French Press or Bombilla. The thermometer is useful as well but not required.
Of course, if you'd like to drink yerba mate in a more traditional way you can buy Gourd, Palo Santo or Ceramic Yerba Mate Cup.

My favorite Yerba Mate is Amanda but I can also recommend Rosamonte and Cruz de Malta. Pajarito is the strongest yerba mate in my opinion.

If you never tried the yerba mate I recommend you to buy a 0.5 kg bag of Rosamonte and Bombilla if you don't have a French Press

  1. Put bombilla into the cup, and fill it with yerba mate, I fill up the cup up to 1/2 full but you can use more or less.
If you are using the French Press pour a few spoons of yerba.
  2. Pour the hot but not boiling water (70 - 80 °C) just above the leaves and wait 5 min.
  3. When the yerba swells fill up the cup and wait another 5 min.
  4. You can refill the cup with hot water as many times as you want.

You can also use very cold water with ice cubes instead of hot, yerba made with very cold water is called Terere.

The taste of yerba mate is bitter and tart when you drink it for the first time, so you can sweeten or add some dried fruits.

You can find more ways to make a yerba mate drink, try and experiment what taste the best for you.

I love coffee and prefer the coffee taste over the yerba mate taste, but I feel much better when I drink yerba mate.

- bitter and tart taste
Coffee
- stimulates body and mind but energy boost and drop are sudden
- taste better than yerba mate
- reduce the risk of heart disease and type II diabetes
- can increase bad cholesterol
- high acidity
- may lead to osteoporosis
- can cause insomnia and restlessness
- inhibit the absorption of vitamins and minerals and increase their excretion

Conclusion: Yerba Mate has more health benefits but the coffee tastes better.

I could write more about yerba mate and coffee, but it will be better when you read the other sources as well.
